With coastal developments happening all around the world, with Norway being no exeption, we can see a loss in natural habitats for both micro and macro organisms. Our oceans are also heavily polluted from the marine industries that have provided us with both jobs and prosperity as a country. What if there was a sustainable way to clean our oceans as well as provide new habitats for the species forgotten during coastal developments?Store Lungegårdsvann is a harbour that is undergoing a lot of de-velopment over the next few years. The seabed here is also heavily polluted as a result of many years of ship -and boat traffic. It therefore seems to be the ideal site for my project. My conceptual idea is to establish a more complex seawall as well as a stair formation that takes one out and into the water. The design of this wall is secondary to the main purpose of the concept, where the surface of the wall is built with the intention of providing habitat for phytoplankton and other organisms that produce oxygen and purify the water. These are species of mussels, snails, different types of crab and seaweed, and the architectural design idea is that this wall makes it inviting for those who want to go swimming, or do other activities in the water.
